Subject: “High pressure hydraulic injection injuries – the risks in construction”

  • A hydraulic injection is an injury caused by high-pressure injection of oil, solvents and even water into the body.  Common causes are accidents with grease guns, paint sprayers and pressure washers, pinhole leaks in pressurised hydraulic hoses can hoses can also cause this injury.   People that are at risk of sustaining a hydraulic injection injury are not confined to mobile hose technicians or plant fitters, in fact anybody that works with or around equipment that is under pressure is potentially at risk.  The initial injury often appears benign and is often not treated with the correct level of urgency, time is a crucial factor in treating this type of injury.  Prompt recognition of the injury and early treatment are essential to avoid a poor outcome, the presentation will hopefully raise people’s awareness of hydraulic injection injuries.
