The one day Health and Safety Awareness Course is designed to help those who are about to or have just begun work in the industry to understand the potential hazards they face on site.   It provides a practical summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues. This includes legislation, procedures, systems and overall control and management of sites and associated tasks such as fire, electrical, RAMS, accident investigation and working at height etc. 

N.B It is an ideal foundation for those wishing to obtain an industry accreditation card and can be an alternative route to the QCF Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment for the CSCS Labourer Card.

Description

Course Overview

The course provides a practical summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, identifying your responsibility for looking after yourself and others, alongside employer’s duties. It will explain what should be done if anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk. 

The aim of this Health and Safety Awareness course it to ensure that individual responsibilities are understood. These include:

  • why you carry out the identified duties;
  • what is expected from you, and;
  • how you contribute to the safety of the workplace.

By the end of this course you will:

  • Understand the need to prevent accidents;
  • Have an understanding of health and safety law;
  • Identify how your role fits into the control and management of the site;
  • Understand the need for risk assessments and method statements;
  • Appreciate the need to perform safely and to stop and ask for advice if not sure, and;
  • Report unsafe acts to prevent an accident. 

Course Content

This Health and Safety Awareness course will cover the following content:

  • General responsibilities;
  • Accident reporting and recording;
  • Health and welfare;
  • Dust and fumes (respiratory risks);
  • Manual handling;
  • Working at height;
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE);
  • First aid and emergency procedures;
  • Fire prevention and control;
  • Hazardous substances;
  • Electrical safety and hand-held tools and equipment;
  • Noise and vibration;
  • Site transportation safety;
  • Excavations and confined spaces, and;
  • Safety signs and signals.

 

Upon successful completion of this one day course your will receive a CITB Certificate. 

CITB SSP Courses - Mandatory requirements

You will be required to bring some form of photographic identification with you on the day of your course. Where identification is not provided by a delegate, they will be refused attendance on the course. 

In order to attend this course you must have a good understanding of spoken and written English. 

Location

All training is conducted at our John Ryder Training Centre in Chertsey. Center opening hours are 8am to 5.30pm, the course commences at 9am and finish at approx 5pm , unless otherwise stated in the joining instructions. Refreshments are included on all courses (lunch is included on full day courses only). 

 

If you are travelling by road, Chertsey is served by both the M3 and M25. No parking is permitted on the grounds of the Centre, but there is sufficient parking in and around Chertsey, all within walking distance of the John Ryder Training Centre. 

For those that use public transport, Chertsey if served by a good service from Waterloo, changing at Staines, Weybridge or Virginia Water for the Chertsey line. The station is approximately ten minutes walk from the Centre. 

If you are attending a two day course and require overnight accommodation, a local hotel list is available upon request.
