Asbestos Awareness Training for Construction and Associated Personnel.

Construction personnel are now the group at highest risk from asbestos when they work in existing buildings which may still contain asbestos containing materials.

Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 requires that all workers who may come into contact with asbestos at work must receive Asbestos Awareness Training. This duty also extends to their supervisors and building professionals such as surveyors, engineers and architects.

This course is both compliant with Regulation 10 and carries accreditation from The United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA).

Course Overview

Asbestos related disease currently accounts for some 5000 deaths in the UK each year. Construction personnel are now the group at highest risk when they work in existing buildings, which may still contain asbestos containing materials.

This course that is both compliant with Regulation 10 and carries accreditation from The United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA). Successful completion of this half day training course will result in a UKATA certificate being awarded to delegates who pass short test which is included in the course fee.

Course Content

You will cover the following topic areas on this course:

  • The properties of asbestos, its health effects including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke

  • Types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and ACMs in buildings and plant

  • General procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency, for example an uncontrolled release of asbestos into the workplace

  • The importance of requiring and understanding the contents of the asbestos survey and the annual management information

  • How to avoid the risks from asbestos, for example: for building work, no employee should carry out work which disturbs the fabric of a building unless the employer has confirmed that ACMs are not present.


All training is conducted at our John Ryder Training Centre in Chertsey. Center opening hours are 8am to 5.30pm, the course commences at 9am and finish at approx 5pm , unless otherwise stated in the joining instructions. Refreshments are included on all courses (lunch is included on full day courses only). 

If you are travelling by road, Chertsey is served by both the M3 and M25. No parking is permitted on the grounds of the Centre, but there is sufficient free parking in and around Chertsey, all within walking distance of the John Ryder Training Centre. 

For those that use public transport, Chertsey if served by a good service from Waterloo, changing at Staines, Weybridge or Virginia Water for the Chertsey line. The station is approximately ten minutes walk from the Centre. 

If you are attending a two day course and require overnight accommodation, a local hotel list is available upon request.
