FPA Provide Update to LPC Sprinkler Rules for Idle Pallet Storage

Following recent research reviewing test information and international standards, the FPA (Fire Protection Association) have issued an update to their technical bulletin TB215: Sprinkler Protection of Idle Pallet Storage (TB215:2021:1) which forms LPC Rules for Automatic Sprinkler Installations 2015.

The update has been made in response to highlight the risks of idle wooden and plastic pallet storage (which can ignite easily if piled and are dried out) and offer a range of solutions.

The bulletin:

  • Outlines the inherent fire risk posed by idle pallets
  • Considers better pallet material classification
  • Presents detailed guidance on storage arrangements
  • Offers greater storage options with respect to height and design density
  • A cross reference to TB234: Protection to High Hazard Storage (HHS) Configurations
  • Information about sprinkler head requirements, Early Suppression Fast Response (ESFR) options, and confirmed water supply options

The bulletin is available for subscribers of the FPA’s LPC Sprinkler Rules.
