The Government have issued their fire and rescue incidents for (year ending December) 2023 spanning the last decade, collated from the Home Office’s Incident Recording System (IRS). These include statistics on all incidents, fire-related fatalities, casualties from fires and response times to fires.

Highlights include:

  • Fire Rescue Services (FRSs) attended 592,996 incidents in the year ending December 2023, a decrease of 5.6% compared with the previous year (628,034).
  • Of these incidents, there were 142,276 fires, which was a decrease of 22% compared with the previous year (183,312).
  • These decreases can be attributed to a decrease of 32% in secondary fires and a decrease of 39% in outdoor primary fires, as the comparator year covers the hot, dry summer of 2022.
