HSE Launch New Musculoskeletal (MSD) Online Assessment Tool

Musculoskeletal Online Assessment Tool designed to simplify the process.

Every year 50,000 construction workers suffer from a musculoskeletal disorder caused by their work, according Health in Construction Leadership Group. With this in mind, Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s) are the most commonly reported cause of ill health in construction.

This all-in-one digital solution, launched by HSE, combines the popular MSD assessment guides; MAC, ART and RAPP. Therefore, this tool simplifies the process of each assessment with a step-by-step approach.

Both employers and safety representatives can use this tool to assess risks posed by lifting, carrying and team manual handling activities. Through this assessment, the level of risk can be understood, interpreted and categorised to allow for the implementation of appropriate control measures.

This week (4th – 8th October) marks 2021’s Back Care Awareness Week, reminding us all to think about how we look after our backs and skeletal systems throughout the working day and whilst at home.

HSE are holding a few live webinars to demonstrate how this tool is used. The next upcoming webinar dates include:

  • Wednesday 27th October at 11am
  • Thursday 25th November at 3pm.
